Med: AWOL

September 1, 2007

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to write a little message to apologize–I’ve gone a bit AWOL here. Rest assured, I am not purposely ignoring the blog; however, with our first exam tuesday I must confess that this hasn’t been my number one priority. This is probably going to happen from time-to-time. And frankly, if you’re reading this blog you probably want to know about me and/or my med school lifestyle–so periodic absences could be informative in and of themselves. 🙂 (OK..a bit of a reach…)

I leave you with this quote…another great one from Dr. Ho:

“Enjoy the ‘Labor day weekend’. I do mean this. This is the first commitment you have as a future Physician.”

A good way to describe med school–in opposition to, say, undergrad–is that I no longer feel I’m a part of academia–med school is job training; it’s practical rather than intellectual. And in that light, I should heed Dr. Ho’s advice–this is another major step and I should embrace it–rather than fear it. And part of me IS going to be excited to take that test (or, as it is put to us, “competency exam”)…but that’s not going to be until I’m actually ready. I do have three full days, and I’ll be just fine.

Wish me luck! I’ll be back on Tuesday.
